shotgunmic's Questions

Audio-Technica’s AT897 is designed for field audio acquisition in film/TV/video production, professional recording, wildlife recording and broadcast applications. It mounts conveniently on a DV camcorder without adding noticeable heft, and remains out of the frame even with compact digital cameras. This high-performance short shotgun offers outstanding long-distance audio pickup due to narrow acceptance angle of line + gradient design. It also features smooth, natural-sounding on-axis audio quality and excellent off-axis rejection of sound arriving from the sides and rear of mic.

Distance to pick up

hello~

I need a microphone to pick up a theater production live for a small church. i was thinking about getting this mic to pick up the play by installing this mic at the front of the stage, pointing upwards towards the actors. i tried just putting up two condenser mics on stands at the end of the stage, but the distance was too far for them to pick up the voices, and they were obtrusive in view.

the stage is about 20 feet wide, and maybe about 8 feet deep. I was thinking about putting this mic on the floor, in front of the stage, pointing up at an angle towards the actors.

let me know if you think this mic would suffice that need, or if you need more information.

thank you!
