I have had these cans for at least a year and all I have to say is WOW!! I absolutely LOVE these headphones! I use them all the time in multiple environments for multiple purposes; mainly as onstage monitors, but also for casual listening, and when I'm producing.
There is no need to go and buy a pair of active noise canceling headphones with these things. These are my onstage monitors I use when i play guitar at my church and my church plays the music really loud and even if I have a minimal amount of sounds going through these things I CANNOT hear anything outside of these!
I won't hardly listen to anything with my in-ears because the quality of the ath-m50's is just unmatched in anything I've ever heard. I compared them to my friends $300 AKG's and they blew them out of the water! I'm in love with these things! I am constantly recommending them to my friends if they are looking for great headphones. BUY THEM!! YOU WONT REGRET IT!!

Does this pair of headphones require a headphone amplifier?
I've read on several websites that some headphones with different impedances require a headphone amplifier separate from an iPod or other mp3 player to function best is this true?

if you play your music really loud then it will leak some sound but not much. very little in fact. and since the impedance is kinda low it doesn't take much to drive these and get a lot out of them. i usually have my volume on my computer at 30 and it doesn't leak any sound at all when I'm producing mixes. and best of all even at low volumes no sound leaks IN at all. so when you're listening you have complete isolation even at fairly low volumes.

When you put on these headphones properly, which ear has the wire attaching to the ear cup? Right or Left? I tried to look at the pic but didn't see any marking of R or L.
