This cartridge is simply amazing. Out of all of the cartridges I have ever used this one has the best channel separation, best trackability, cleanest highs, lowest inner groove distortion and most balanced sound I have ever heard. When the cart is young it can be a bit too top heavy, but after about 10 hours of play it balanced out beautifully. After a break in period of about 20 hours, this cartridge is nothing short of AMAZING. I was reading an article by another audiophile about this cartridge and he had the most accurate quote I have ever read about this cartridge. He described listening to a Beatles LP as a "cacophony of sound,"
I am contiually amazed by this cartridge. I hear details of songs that I have never heard before.. Nuances appear that were never there before. Inner musical movement #lower parts to a mix that are often lost# are present and clear - even better than in their CD counterpart many times. Inner groove distortion is completely gone with most records, and drastically improved with damaged records.
I own two moving coil cartridges and this cart matches performance with one and outperforms the other. This is quite a feat for a moving magnet cart, especially in this price range.
This cartridge's compliance is at about 10. I have this cartridge mounted on a medium mass tonearm with a low mass headshell and get great results. This cart tracks like a CHAMPION!
The cart only has a few cons I can think of. It is not for beginners. Due to the line contact stylus, you must set the VTA #azimuth#, VTF and overhang properly. You need to keep in mind that the finely polished tip can be sensitive, so back cueing and attempting to play outside of the recommended VTF are absolutely not recommended.

This is a fantastic, fantastic turntable. Did I mention that it's fantastic?
The turntable comes packaged with an ATP-2XN catridge, so it literally is a plug-and-play product. The usb and rca outputs are both amplified to line level so you can plug this turntable directly into your computer, a line in, a "tape in," "cd in" or an "aux in" without needing a phono preamp.
The motor is high torque and hits 100% speed in about 1/3 of a revolution. This is extremely important if you're using the turntable for DJ applications.
What I like most about this turntable is very well engineered, perfectly dimensional S-Curve tonearm. As long as you consider compliance and the weight of your headshell, this turntable has given me surprisingly great results with a few low output moving coil cartridges.

This may be the best sounding cartridge in this price range. Yes, I have heard cartridges that sound better, but they have also been in much different price ranges. I think you'll have trouble tracking down an overall better cart without plopping down at least $50 more.
The highs are smooth and the ATP-2XN handles tough transients with surprisingly fluidity. The mids are lush but can be a bit "in your face" at times. Bass response is quite impressive and stable with this cart, and overall the trackability is excellent. As long as you have the overhang and VTA set properly, inner groove distortion is surprisingly low. It may be that the lush, milky, in your face mid range hide some of the IGD, but if that's the case than this cart plays it off really well. Chances are if you got this cartridge prepackeged with the AT-LP120 turntable, this cartridge was premounted. If that's the case the only thing you have to manually set is VTA as everything else is set to factory specs for you.
Overall, the tonal balance is quite nice, especially at this price. If you're an audiophile you'll probably find the soundstage boring and compressed, but if you haven't experienced high end moving magnet, moving iron or moving coil carts, you'll likely think that this is one of the best carts you've ever heard, if not the best.

2 questions about output and pitch.
1. Are there rca outputs on the turntable for use with a stereo receiver?
2. I found a turntable will allow you to slow down the speed without affecting the pitch. This is useful to musicians trying to learn quick/difficult passages without having to transpose them.

1) The audio outputs will work with a stereo reciever. Keep in mind that this turntable has a built in preamp so you need to plug it into a "line in," "tape in," "cd in" or an "aux in." If you plug it into your "audio in" you will have a lot of unpleasant and loud distortion.
2) This turntable does not have the pitch control you are asking about. I personally have a professional turntable with pitch control but it is quite limited. You can only go up and down about 8 rpm which equates to about an octave or two, depending on the speed of the disc. There is some very powerful and inexpensive software available that will do this, and much more. The quality of this turntable is quite good, so it would be worth it for you to consider that option.

Headphone Input?
Can I plug headphones into this turntable?
Yes, you can plug headphones into this turntable but the audio would most likely be quite low because the signal out of the turntable is at preamplified "line level." You also will not be able to control the volume unless your headphones have a built in volume control.
You will either need an RCA to 3.5 mm plug adapter or an RCA to 1/4" jack adapter, depending on if your headphones have the small or large plug. The adapter you need will have "female" RCA plugs and a "female" 3.5mm or 1/4" jack.
You're better off either listening to the turntable through a computer or an amplifier. Since you have asked this question online I am assuming you have a computer. If so, you can simply plug the turntable's supplied audio cable into the "line in" of your computer. You then have to toggle to your computer's sound mixer so you can control the volumee. You can also plug this turntable into a USB port with the supplied USB cable.

I have static when playing records thru my amplifier
I have a LP-120 connected to an Onkyo 609 amplifier with the analog cable form the 120. The switch is on line and I get music but also a significant amount of static. This source is the only one that has static when playing thru my system. Is there a way to ground the turntable or shield the cable. I may be getting interference from all the cabling out of the back of the 609.
Is it plugged into the Onkyo's "Phono In?" If so, you will get a lot of static and distortion because this is a pre-amplified turntable. The signal sent out by this turntable is line level. If you plug it into a "cd in," "tape in," "line in" or "aux in" you'll be fine. You also don't have to connect a ground cable because the turntable's preamp is grounded to the power cord.

Playing old 78s
I've recently inherited dozens of old 78s, produced primarily in the 30s and 40s. Will I damage the stylus on my ATP-2 cartridge by playing these records? Is there a specific cartridge/stylus combination that can be used to play old 78s, and if so, what would be the settings for balance, tracking force and anti-skate?
You "can" play 78s with the supplied stylus but you shouldn't. There are 78 styli available for this cart, and you owe it to yourself to hear what this cart is capable of wiith 78s. It really sounds fantastic with the right stylus.

Vertical tracking force
I recently bought the AT-LP120USB turntable, wich comes with the ATP-2N cartridge installed. I would like to know if this cartridge can be used with a lower tracking force than the recomeded in the manual (3 to 5 grms). Or, what is the level of damaging produced to a vinyl LP when using tracking forces over 2grms. Thanks a lot.
I would say you're safe down to 2.5. The cantilever is a bit stiff and if you set the VTF too low you'll have the stylus bounce around in the groove which will do far more damage than playing between the factory settings of 3-5.
The AT-LP120 turntable is a well made piece of machinery and as long as you properly set your anti skating and your VTA, you shouldn't do any damage to your vinyl at 3.0 grams.

USB FlashDrive?
Will the AT-LP120-USB accept a USB flash drive in the usb port? I do not have the ability to directly connect the turntable to my computer. I wish to transfer my old vinyl albums to a flash drive, and then use the flash to transfer to my computer (via my itunes acct.) Can this be done?
If your computer has a "line in" you can plug the turntable in, bypassing the USB port. The turntable comes supplied with RCA output cables and an adapter for your line in jack. All you will need is software to capture the line in feed and you'll be able to record. The line is pre-amplified so you will not have to buy a separate preamp.

ATP-2 Cartrige
Recently I have purchased the AT-LP120 -USB Direct Drive Turntable System. The unit offers three selectable RPM speeds: 33/45/78. Can the stylus supplied with the system which I believe is the ATP-2 cartridge and an ATP-N2 stylus play all three speeds or does it require to have different stylus to play all the three speeds? Please advise.

The stylus supplied with the ATP-2XN cartridge is an elliptical microgroove stylus and should not be used to play 78s. You technically "can" play 78s with it but you will do premature damage to your 78s and your stylus.
There are 78 styli available for this cart and they are surprisingly inexpensive. This is a great sounding moving magnet cartridge and 78s sound wonderful on it when you have the right size stylus.

Is it possible to just plug in the Audio Technica ATLP120 Professional Turntable with USB to a PC and play the records instead of coverting them first
I am looking for a turntable that i can simply plug and play if i am not interested in converting to digital files first, but would also have the ability to convert to digital files if i so chose. Yes, you can play live without recording. The audio signal is sent out of the USB live, similar to what is sent out of an RCA cable. The beauty of this is that this is a fully amplified signal so you'll have no problem with most carts, aside from low output Moving Coil carts.

I will not say that it is better than audacity, but I have been using "Goldwave" for about 8 years and have had fantastic results.

How can I connect this to a mixer?
As I see, it doesn't have RCA-RCA cable. It has only RCA -3.5mm cable.

Actually, you can connect this turntable directly to the line in of your computer because it has a built in preamp. The turntable also comes supplied with the wires you will need to connect it to your computer. If you have software that can capture your computer's "line in" signal, I would suggest using the RCA out of the turntable rather than the USB out.
