Do not let the words on the sides of the cup fool you, these are in no way monitoring headphones. You will not get an entirely accurate representation of the music.
What you will get is a experience of the highest quality and most bass impact you have ever experienced. Audio Technica's legendary ATH-M50's are great for all genres of music, but if you can't get enough of those lows then this is your logical next step.
The build quality and aesthetics are top notch, as always. But what is remarkable about these headphones is that Audio Technica manages to have tidal waves of bass thrown at you without compromising any of the miss and highs. While other competitors who try to do this end up mudding everything up, this company has managed to keep the other frequencies clean while still delivering on endless amounts of bass.
They're not the most comfortable headphones even once you've broken them in, not due to the tight fit but the way they sit on your ears. But they're terrific portables and really shine when paired with a small portable headphone amp.
If other headphones have left you hungry for more bass look no further. However if you need a headphone that is solid on all genres of music, you may be more interested in something a little less bass biased like the ATH-M50's or the ATH-ESW9's if you have some money to spend.

The PRO5MK2's are fun headphones. That's why I purchased them. I have my audiophile grade audiotechnica headphones for relaxing at home, but these were for being out in the streets.
The bass is wonderful, very powerful. Perhaps even rivaling the M50's, but surely not the PRO700's. This could be attributed to it's tight tight seal. This seal combined with the closed backs makes the passive noise cancellation also noteworthy. Don't let the full bass scare you off though, Compared to the M50's and other DJ headphones they are definitely monitoring headphones and portray everything very accurately, nothing is terribly overstate and everything is as clear as closed back, circumaural headphones will allow.
They're really comfortable and the camo ones are quite attractive. However, there is a silver ring where the c joint meets the actual headphone that I never saw in any publicity photos.
If you're looking for your first audiophile quality DJ phones, get the M50's which are a bit more expensive… but if you're looking for some smaller fun and great looking DJ cans to go out with, these are great.

If other headphones were kinds of jackets, these headphones would be the silky red smoking jacket worn by a man who has many leather bound books and whose house smells like rich mahogany.
The ESW9A's are portable headphones in a class by itself. These are my go to portable headphones if I am anywhere but home. Comfortable, beautiful, and with audiophile grade audio, it's honestly no contest.
These headphones have traveled all over the country with me, on buses and planes. They conveniently fold flat and come with a soft carrying case. I keep mine in Audiotechnica's AT-HPP5 hard case.
Just like the dark wooden cups and leather pads, they have a engaging dark silky smooth sound, very different than Audiotechnica's usual sound which is more favorable to female vocals and classical music. Everything, including the bass is very full and engaging.
Because of this, the ESW9A's are wonderful for almost any genre of music you can throw at it. Some Auditechnica headphones are best suited for a few genre's of music but these are one of the exceptions. Modern rock and punk, rap and hip hop, even electric music sounds great. If you're looking for even heavier bass though, these classy cans wouldn't be for you- I'd check out the Audiotechnica's M50's or even the PRO700MK2's if the bass on the M50's weren't enough for you.
As any classy piece of equipment as this, one has to be careful not to scratch the wooden cups- they're somewhat glossy and are prone to scratches. The cable is also quite thin and not shielded and should be watched after carefully. If you're clumsy or rough on your equipment there are other Audiotechnica headphones that you may pair better with.
At one point, I absentmindedly broke my cable and the professionals at Audio Technica were very friendly and easy to work with and I had my headphones back no worse for wear before I knew it.

The W5000's are the best headphones I've owned or listened to, and I've been around the block when it comes to headphones. I could honestly writes pages about these but I'll attempt to keep it brief.
These headphones have a very specific purpose in the broad range of things. There are head phones for travel, for working out, for walking to the market, and for studio use. The W5000's are none of those. These headphones excel and should be applied to a very few specific purposes only, mainly as headphones for one to just relax and enjoy music with.
These full sized headphone's sound signature excels with female vocals, acoustic guitars, and string and brass instruments. If you enjoy these kind of musics, or any music with pronounced mid ranges and trebles- you're in for a treat. If you're looking for a greater bass extension or a headphone that's better suited for a broader range of music I suggest you check out Audio Technica's AT-W1000X.
Despite being low impedance headphones a headphone amp is recommended for these to really give the music a full body.
My biggest recommendation is to keep them in their case or on a headphone stand (mine are on the Audio Technica AT-HPS500) until you're ready to use them to keep these beautiful headphones safe.
The included case is very high quality and borderline luxurious.
If you're serious about music like Audio Technica is than these may be the headphones for you.

These were my first "audiophile" grade headphones, and it opened a doorway to a whole world of high quality music that has since changed my whole outlook on listening to music. These lightweight headphones are an incredible deal for their quality. It's comparable to listening an entire surround sound system. Because of their open frame the sound stage is incredibly wide and large and there is little to no pressure on the ears. It's a good thing they're comfortable because this preservation of spacial information really helps you find things in your music you never knew was there. I would recommend these to anyone interested in entering the world of audio the way it was meant to be heard, or any competitive gamer even. These are highly recommended for competitive gaming whereas they afford you a leg up on the competition because you are much more aware of the "world" around you.
Please keep in mind that these are open air style: The backs of the drivers are exposed so there is sound leakage. A quiet room is the best for these, whereas people can here what you're listening to to a small degree, and you can certainly hear them.

how do these compare to the m50s

i am looking into buying either pair but i enjoy listening to music like dubstep and many other types of techno music and i like to listen to music on the go so i am deciding between the two please if anyone could tell me which ones would be better for those uses it would be much appreciated
If you listen to strictly those genres than the PRO700MK2 will suit you best whereas the bass response is much stronger. However if you listen to music where the bass is not the main focus as well as bass centric music such as dub step, you will benefit more from the M50's whereas the M50's are much more flattering to music where bass is not the main focal point.

How can I tell if the Pro700 are the real ones

The headphone I bought today are suppose to be Audio-Technica ATH-PRO700......After looking at them, they don't have the AUDIO-TECHNICA in white across the top of the headband, like the others. Also on the phones themselves, it says ATH-PRO700 only.....not ATH-PRO700MK2..or ATH-PRO700SV or ATH-PRO700MK2ANV....the cable is straight then coiled then straight. I've never owned Audio-Technica before but for a high end set of phones, I thought they would sound better, than these do. Are these one of the first set of ATH-PRO's, that they made, or are these FAKE? DOES ANYONE, KNOW?
It's quite possible you purchased a counterfeit product from a retailer whom is not an authorized Audio Technica retailer.

A good giveaway is the lack of print across the top of the headband whereas that is on both the older revision, the PRO700 as well as the PRO700MK2 series of headphones.

Always be sure to purchase from an authorized retailer to ensure you are getting the quality Audio Technica product you're paying for and expecting.

ATH-PRO700MK2 VS. ATH-PRO700 SV

what is different between those two headphone and which will be better
The PRO700 SV is the silver model of the first revision of the PRO700 line of headphones. You may be able to find one used however as you've noticed, the PRO700MK2 is the current generation of the PRO700 and is a more refined design and sound and inherently a marginally better product due to it's revisions.

The PRO700MK2 should be available for purchase from any authorized AT Retailer.

I am buying headphones for my kids who range in age from 13 to 27. Do you have a particular model that is selling well to this demographic?

The M50 DJ Style headphone go above and beyond in terms of reception within that age group. Not only are are they professional grade headphones, but the bang for the buck considerably outweighs many of the more mainstream popular headphones.

Consider this, you have any problem with these incredible sounding headphones, such as a short in the wire- and it can be fixed simply by sending them in. The work I have had done by AT has always been professional, prompt, and best of all- affordable.

ATH Pro 700 with no detachable cable? Are they MK1? or Non Original?

To expand on the previous answer, the original PRO700's did not feature a detachable cable. The pair in question are the first edition which have since been revised with that feature. From what I understand, the PRO700's did not have many counterfeits, but if you're concerned you can contact an authorized audiotechnica retailer and they may be able to assist you.

ATH-ESW9A closed or open?

Is this a noise-isolating headphones or is it open-back design?
The back of these headphones are wooden cups, and beautiful ones at that, so they are closed back.

This isolates noise to a degree, but these sit on the ear, rather than circumaural, so there is passive noise cancellation but not a huge degree of it.

Generally the ESW9A's are good for airplanes and those kind of environment but any noisier than that and you may want to look into a close back circumaural solution or actual active noise cancelling headphones which AT also markets.

Will my headphones loosen up?

I just got the Pro700's and they are really constricting on my head and i was wondering if there was a good way to loosen them up so i can wear them for hours on end without fainting. Thank you
I'm a big fan of the PRO700MK2's however you are correct, they tend to be a tight clamp on those with larger heads such as us. This is my recommendation, which has worked for myself and others in the past.

You can either take a melon or a ball, and pet them on it as if it was wearing it- overnight. This tends to loosen them up a little bit and if you're you're using an average size melon or any other spherical object.

If you're not comfortable with that, or don't have something like that on hand, the headbands are pretty rugged and can take a bit of a beating, so don't be afraid to stretch it out a little by even just by pulling the cups apart to push against the resistance. They'll break in.

But you don't want to lose that tight seal, afterall, that affords you some of that great powerful bass the PRO700MK2's are known for, but you do want to be comfortable.

ATH-AD900 Audiophile Open-air Dynamic Headphones

Open vs. Closed back regarding sound quality.

Since both the closed and open designs offer a wide sound scape, which would be better for hearing the smallest details in a composition. I'm looking for the best quality in sound and I heard that open backed headphones will give out a better sound quality. Is this true? Also, how bad would you expect the sound leakage to be for the ATH-AD900?
Actually, the open designs offer a considerably wider and broader soundstage than closed back headphones are capable of- simply because the back of the driver is exposed.

With this however, is leakage. You would not be able to use these in a library, the AD900's or the 700's. However it's generally not obtrusive to those around you either. For example, my roommate never minded and we shared a room. Please note that you will also be able to hear those around you as well, there is little to no isolation from the outside.

You're going to be able to monitor and hear the distance between instruments notably better with the open air style headphones.
